Men's Soccer Opens Season With 4-0 Win Over Hartford

The Central Connecticut men's soccer team opened the 2022 season with a 4-0 win over Hartford on Thursday at CCSU Soccer Field. The Blue Devils scored three goals in the second half to open the campaign on a high note.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central opened the scoring after taking possession in the midfield. Ivan Farias-Martinez dribbled down the sideline and took the ball along the baseline before sliding a pass in front to Eric Kanebog. The freshman took one touch and buried his first career goal at the 30:09 mark.
- The Blue Devils doubled the lead in the opening minutes of the second half. Taein Ka dribbled in from the left wing and his cross was backheeled at the nearpost by Austin Rocke to make it 2-0 in the 49th minute.
- With just over 25 minutes to play, Kanebog took the ball at the top of the 18-yard box and laid it off for Birk Martinsen who sent a hard shot past the keeper to make it 3-0.
- Mitchell Lyons tacked on a goal in the 79th minute when he buried a short pass from Joey Tata to push the lead to 4-0.

"We are happy with the result, thought the team played well and had a comprehensive result. We kept a cleansheet which is always one of our objectives and what was amazing is it was one junior and the rest are all freshmen and sophomores. Our team is going to continue to get better and better every game. I'm very happy with the result," said head coach David Kelly.

7 - The Blue Devils opened the season with a win for the first time since 2014 when they defeated Stony Brook 1-0 on August 29.

- CCSU tallied multiple goals in a season-opener for the first time since a 2-0 win over Yale on August 31, 2012.
- The Blue Devils defeated the Hawks for the first time since Sept. 6, 2011.
- Mick Sipples made two stops for CCSU to earn the shutout.
- Central outshot Hartford, 11-4, and had a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
