Men's Soccer Shorted in Double-Overtime 3-2 by LIU Friday
Pirola and Parker both collected goals for the Blue Devils.
Central Connecticut fell in double overtime to LIU Brooklyn in men's soccer action, 3-2, on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils slip to 4-7-2 overall and 1-2 in the Northeast Conference.
The Blue Devils took a lead in the 33rd minute. Senior Ryan Taylor broke down the right side with the ball and crossed to senior DeShawn Parker who kicked it into the back of the net to make it 1-0.
The Blackbirds would even the score with just over 32 minutes remaining. Naeem Charles would take a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. He put his shot through a gap in the CCSU wall that curved just inside the left post and tied the score 1-1 with 32:14 to play.
Central took a 2-1 lead with under 13 minutes to play on the second goal of the season from freshman Filippo Pirola. Classmate Dwayne Marshall fed a beautiful pass into the box from the left side and Pirola slid and kicked the ball past the keeper to the right sie of the box.
The Blackbirds tied the game 2-2 with 2:29 left in the second half when Rasmus Hansen converted a penalty kick past CCSU senior keeper Carson D'Ambrosio. In overtime, both teams went back-and-forth with high pressure shots on goal, but were unable to score sending the game to a second overtime.
With 2:03 left in double-overtime, LIU's Hansen made good on the golden goal for his second goal of the game on a low header off of a line drive corner kick from Filip Nordstrom sealing the win for the Blackbirds.
Central travels to intra-state foe Sacred Heart on Sunday, Oct. 15. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
