Men's Soccer Earns United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award
Blue Devils recognized for academic work for third straight year.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team was among 295 programs recognized with the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award it was announced Monday. The Blue Devils have achieved the honor for each of the last three years and six times since 2010.
College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point of average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster. A total of 841 soccer teams (295 men, 546 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2016-17 academic year. Central was also among a list of 210 schools to have both its men's and women's programs earn the Team Academic Award.
Head coach Shaun Green's squad posted a cumulative GPA of 3.06 during the 2016-17 academic year. Green has seen his teams recognized for their discipline in the classroom with the Team Academic Award in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
The Blue Devils are currently 4-6-2 overall and 1-1 in Northeast Conference action. Central is back in action on Friday, Oct. 13, when it hosts LIU Brooklyn at 4:00 p.m.
