Andres Muriel Albino Named NEC Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Albino helped CCSU to its first league win of the year on Sunday
Sophomore Andres Muriel Albino of the Central Connecticut men's soccer team was named Northeast Conference Player of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Albino helped power the CCSU offense to a five-goal outburst in a 5-3 win over Saint Francis U on Sunday in the Blue Devils' first Northeast Conference win of the season.
Albino tallied two goals and an assist in Central's 5-3 win over Saint Francis U. The midfielder scored his first goal of the day in the 15th minute to give the Blue Devils a 2-1 lead over the Red Flash, then assisted on senior DeShawn Parker's tally in the 55th minute as the Blue Devils regained the lead. Albino found the back of the net once more in the 64th minute to put CCSU up 4-2, scoring the eventual game-winning goal.
The five goals were the most scored by CCSU since scoring five versus UMass on September 6, 2015.
Albino currently leads the Blue Devils in goals (five) and points (14). He also leads the team in shots (31) and ranks second with 12 shots on goal.
Central returns to action on Friday, Oct. 13, when it hosts LIU Brooklyn at 4:00 p.m.
