Men's Soccer Falls to LIU Brooklyn in Northeast Conference Opener
The Blue Devils host Sacred Heart on Sunday, Oct. 16.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team fell at LIU Brooklyn, 7-2, in its Northeast Conference opener in Brooklyn, NY. The Blue Devils scored first, but a flurry of LIU Brooklyn goals in a 10-minute span proved to be the difference.
CCSU slips to 1-8-2 overall and 0-1-0 in NEC play on the year.
The Blue Devils opened the scoring under 10 minutes into the game when junior Ryan Taylor sent a cross to senior Daquan King who netted his third goal of the year on an easy finish to make it 1-0.
The Blackbirds would tie the game at the 12:41 mark when Simen Hestnes took a pass from Naeem Charles and sent a shot from the right side to the far left to make it 1-1.
LIU would take the lead a minute later on a goal by Charles to make it 2-1. The Blackbirds tacked on four more goals before halftime to build a 6-1 lead. Hestnes scored another of his own and set up two more, while Charles also marked his second of the half.
Taylor would get a goal back for Central at the 80:41 mark off an unassisted shot in front of the net to make it 6-2.
LIU tacked on a goal with 4:33 to play for the final margin.
Senior Nick Velleca made 11 saves for the Blue Devils in just over 75 minutes of action, while sophomore Carson D'Ambrosio made one after subbing on. Central had six corner kicks in the game, but was outshot, 25-10.
The Blue Devils return to action on Sunday, Oct. 16, when they host Sacred Heart at 3:00 p.m.
