Men's Soccer Ties at Cornell, 2-2, on Friday
Blue Devils return home on Wednesday against Stony Brook.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team scored a pair of goals in a 10-minute span to earn a 2-2 draw at Cornell on Friday night. The Blue Devils rallied from a two-goal deficit to go to 0-1-1 on the season.
The Big Red opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Brady Dickens picked up a rebound from 20 yards away and converted his first goal of the season to make it 1-0.
Cornell doubled the lead at the 58:45 mark. Tommy Griffin and Christophe Gerlach combined to feed Ryan Watters who came down the right wing and sent his shot to the far corner to make it 2-0.
The Blue Devils got on the scoreboard at the 61:00 mark. Senior Alexander Hastings found freshman Halvard Ramstad on a throw-in, who managed to put his shot past the Cornell keeper to make it 2-1.
Freshman Andres Muriel Albino would level the score at the 71:14 mark after picking up a rebound at the top of the box and score his first career goal to make it 2-2.
The Blue Devils would get off three shots in the extra periods, but were unable to score, while junior Carson D'Ambrosio made four saves in the overtimes to protect the tie.
Senior Nick Velleca started for CCSU and had one save, while D'Ambrosio finished with seven saves after coming in at halftime.
Central finished with a 12-10 edge in shots and had an 8-4 margin in corner kicks.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Wednesday, September 7, when they host Stony Brook at 7:00 p.m.
