Former Men's Soccer Standout Obasi Signs With Ottawa Fury
Thomas Obasi earned all-conference honors as a senior.
Former Central Connecticut men's soccer standout, Thomas Obasi, recently signed with the Ottawa Fury FC of the North American Soccer League. Obasi joins the Fury after previously playing with the Rochester Rhinos of the USL.
Obasi played with the Blue Devils from 2011-12. He started 37 career games and totaled four goals and seven assists. He was named All-Northeast Conference First Team and All-North Atlantic Region by the NSCAA as a junior in 2011 after tallying a pair of game-winning goals. He helped CCSU to a 10-8-1 record and a share of the regular-season conference title with a 7-3 mark in NEC play.
As a senior, Obasi helped the Blue Devils go 8-8-2 overall and 6-3-1 in the league. He was a First Team NSCAA Scholar All-America selection and was again named to the All-NEC First Team after recording a goal and five assists. He matched a school record with three assists in a game against Saint Francis U. Obasi was also named to the All-North Atlantic Region Team for the second time in 2012.
With the Rochester Rhinos last season, Obasi helped anshor a defense that surrendered a league-low 15 goals. In two seasons with the Rhinos he appeared in 44 games and notched a goal and four assists, while playing over 3500 minutes. He helped the Rhinos claim their first USL championship since 2010.
Obasi also has experience playing with the Western Mass Pioneers of the Premier Development League and CFC Azul. The Birmingham, England native was a member of the England National Futsal Team.
