Freddy Metellus Named NEC Player of the Week
Senior forward notched two goals in win over Massachusetts.
Senior Freddy Metellus of the Central Connecticut men's soccer team was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week it was announced on Tuesday by the league office. Metellus scored twice in Central's 5-1 win over Massachusetts on Sunday to help the Blue Devils improve to 1-1 on the season.
Metellus scored two goals on three shots, including the game-winner, in Central Connecticut's win over UMass. The senior forward scored the eventual game-winner off of a pass from teammate sophomore Ryan Taylor in the 20th minute and added his second of the day on a header off a cross from senior Ben Knight in the 55th minute to make it 4-0.
Metellus' goal total matches the highest total he's had in any previous season. His offensive exploits also helped power CCSU's highest offensive output since a 5-0 win over Bryant on October 1, 2008.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday, September 11, against New Hampshire at the Peter Baldwin Memorial Classic Presented by Morgan Stanley & The Windjammer, which will be hosted by the University of Vermont.
