Men's Soccer Alum Bill Duffy to be Inducted into Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame
Former captain and assistant coach to be honored on Jan. 31
Central Connecticut men's soccer alum Bill Duffy is among those being inducted into the Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame Class of 2015. Duffy is one of six individuals being honored at the induction dinner on Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell.
WILLIAM DUFFY:
Bill Duffy has been involved in Connecticut soccer his entire life. He played four years of varsity soccer at Central Connecticut State University from 1982-1986 as the Blue Devils transitioned into NCAA Division I. Duffy captained the CCSU squad his junior and senior years and, as the central midfielder, led the team in assists during that time. In 1986, he earned the Frederick Gladstone Award as the Outstanding Senior Athlete and the Medal of Merit Award for athletic and academic achievement. Post graduation, Duffy was the Assistant Varsity Soccer Coach at Central for the 1986 season.
After his career at Central, Duffy went on to play soccer for prestigious clubs in state, including Hartford Portuguese, New Britain Polonia-Falcons, and Glastonbury Celtic. Duffy won multiple state and Cup titles with all three clubs. He continues to play for Berlin Soccer Club today.
From 1991 to 2007, Bill was the editor and publisher of two soccer newspapers, CJSA Newsline and Soccer Connecticut Magazine. He was Vice President of the CT State Soccer Association (1992-96) and earned the CSSA Contributor Award in 2002. In addition, Duffy was the Publicity Coordinator for the 1991 USA/Norway Women's International Friendly in New Britain in which the event set an attendance record for spectators at a U.S. Women's National Team game.
Duffy has served on numerous CT Soccer Hall of Fame committees since its inception in 1999. He grew up in Mansfield, Connecticut playing for the Mansfield Stars Jr. Soccer Club and E.O. Smith High School (1980-81).
