Men's Soccer Edged at Penn State, 1-0
The Nittany Lions didn't find the net until the 80th minute
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team fell to Penn State by a final score of 1-0 on Sunday night. The match was scoreless for 80 minutes before the Nittany Lions found the net for the contest's only goal. The loss drops CCSU to 0-2 on the season.
Junior goalkeeper Rafal Krauze, making his first start of the season and the second of his career, made three saves in goal for the Blue Devils in the match. The Blue Devil defense allowed just four shots on goal in the match, and the Nittany Lions didn't manage to sneak one through until late in the second half.
Central had five shots in the match, but managed just one on goal. Andrew Wolverton made one save to record the shutout win for Penn State.
Eli Dennis scored the only goal of the game at 79:39. Sophomore Zach Zurita had a pair of shots for the Blue Devils, including the one on goal. Central had some chances to score in the first half, including a shot off the post by Zurita off a pass from senior Eddy Bogle.
Penn State held a 9-3 edge in corner kicks. The Blue Devils, who finished 8-8-2 a year ago, are now 0-2 on the season.
Central, who plays five straight on the road to start the season, plays at UMBC on Sept. 5. The match begins at 7 p.m.
