Central's first test came only three minutes into play when junior goalkeeper Paul Armstrong had to make a save off a header by Holy Cross's Jerry Dickinson. The Crusaders would only have two more attempts on goal in the first 45 minute period. The Blue Devils had four shot attempts in the first half, including two chance within three minutes of each other by senior captain Yan Klukowski.
The game remained scoreless as the two teams went into the 79th minute. A CCSU cross came across the middle of the box and Cavener put it away after a scramble for the ball. This game winner marked the second goal in Cavener's career and the Blue Devils never looked back as they did not allow another shot on goal attempt in the game. Armstrong finished with three saves on the night.
