Former Central Connecticut standout golfer Kyle Gallo has been named the new head men's golf coach for the Blue Devils, Director of Athletics Paul Schlickmann announced on August 10, 2015.  Gallo, a 1998 graduate of the University, played three seasons of golf for the Blue Devils under legendary coach Lowell Lukas before embarking on an extremely successful professional career.

"I am very excited to welcome back Kyle Gallo to the CCSU family as the next head coach of our men's golf program," Schlickmann said on Monday.  "Kyle's name surfaced immediately when the search began by virtue of his reputation and credentials in the regional golf world as well as his personal ties to Blue Devil Athletics.  He validated those attributes in the interview process and displayed a clear understanding of, and passion for, the tradition of excellence associated with CCSU men's golf.   I am confident that Kyle will serve as a positive mentor and role model for our student-athletes while developing them and our program into perennial contenders for the NEC Championship."

Gallo joins the Blue Devils after more than 15 years as a successful professional including four Connecticut Open Championships, most recently in 2010.  He also won in 2004, 2000 and 1998.  He was the runner-up five times (1997, 2003, 2007, 2008 and 2012).  Gallo shares the 54-hole scoring record at the tournament with his score of 200 at the Country Club of Fairfield in 2000.  His four titles are tied for the most in the history of the event, which has been held since 1931.

During his professional career he spent time on the Nationwide (now the Web.com) Tour in 2005 and 2006.  He has also played on mini-tours and in state open events throughout New England.

"Having the opportunity to come back to an institution that gave me so much in my career is certainly rewarding and gratifying for me personally," Gallo said.  "It is an honor for me to be back here.  This is a fantastic opportunity to take what I have learned in the last 15-16 years and help these student-athletes learn not only on the golf course but in their everyday life.  I am thankful to Paul and the entire staff to have the opportunity to give back to CCSU and play a pivotal role in the development in the entire athletic program, and to bring CCSU back to a top program in New England."

Gallo, a native of Kensington, CT, is a member of the Berlin High School Hall of Fame.  He graduated from Berlin High School in 1993 after being named All-Conference four times.  He was a three-time All-State selection and a two-time All-New England pick.

Gallo played at CCSU from 1993-95 and 1997-98 and was a three-time All-New England selection.  He also spent one season at the University of Texas El Paso (1995-96) where he was a First Team Western Athletic Conference selection.

Gallo was the runner-up in the 1995 Connecticut Amateur, named the 1997 Connecticut Golf Association Player of the Year and qualified for the U.S. Amateur in 1995, 1997 and 1998.  He turned professional in 1998 and went on to win numerous tournaments, in addition to his four Connecticut Open titles, including the 1999 Maine Open, the 2004 Providence Open, the 2009 and 2014 Cape Cod Open and the 2011 Massachusetts Open.  He also posted victories in the 2013 New England Open, 2013 Washington D.C. Open and the 2005 and 2010 Manchester Open.

Gallo is married to Meghan Chasse and they reside in Manchester.
