Men's Golf Picked Second in Preseason NEC Coaches Poll
Blue Devils open the season on March 5 at the Lonnie Barton Invitational
The Central Connecticut men's golf team was picked to finish second in the Northeast Conference men's golf preseason coaches poll on Tuesday. The Blue Devils received three first place votes among the league's nine head coaches.
Bryant was picked to finish first in the league poll, and received five first place votes. CCSU was second, followed by Fairleigh Dickinson, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart, St. Francis U, Wagner, LIU Brooklyn and St. Francis Brooklyn. FDU received the other first place vote.
The Blue Devils are coming off a successful fall in which they victorious in their final two competitions of the season. First, they placed first in am 11-team field that included five NEC programs, shooting a two round total of 586 to win the Metropolitan Intercollegiate hosted by Wagner College. They finished the fall season with a tri-match victory over both Bryant and Holy Cross. CCSU again shot a two round total of 586 to top second place Bryant by 10 strokes in the match.
Central begins their spring season at the Lonnie Barton Invitational in Daytona Beach, FL. The tournament will be played on the same course as the NEC Championships which will be held from April 28-30.
The Blue Devils will also compete at the Checkmate Match Play Challenge in New Jersey, the Towson Spring Invitational, the Yale Spring Invitational, the Rhode Island Invitational and then the NEC Championships at the end of April.
