Men's Golf, Sebastianelli Claim Titles at Inaugural Metropolitan Intercollegiate
Senior shoots 68 in second round to win title by four strokes
The Central Connecticut men's golf team shot a second round score of 293 and claimed the Inaugural Metropolitan Intercollegiate Championship on Tuesday in West Orange, NJ. Senior Anthony Sebastianelli shot a second round score of 68 to finish with a total 168, good for a four shot victory as the individual medalist. The Blue Devils won the team title by seven strokes over second place Sacred Heart.
The tournament was played at Montclair Country Club. The Blue Devils shot identical rounds of 293 on Monday and Tuesday to claim the title, their first of the 2017-18 season. Sebastianelli shot 70-68 to finish at 138 and claim the individual title. He finished four strokes ahead of the second place finisher.
Sebastianelli's 68 on Tuesday was the best round of the day by three strokes. He was the only competitor in each round to shoot 70 or lower. He finished at -2, the only player in the field under par.
Every Blue Devil who competed finished in the top-20, helping pace CCSU to the victory.
Sophomore Drew Aitken finished in a tie for eighth place overall after shooting 74-73 to finish at 147. Freshman Nick Piersall shot 74-76 and finished at 150 in a tie for 14th place.
Senior Brandon Raine and sophomore Arthur Ouimet each shot 75-76 and finished at 151 in a tie for 20th place overall.
Central finished first (586), followed by Sacred Heart (593), St. Peter's (602), Fairleigh Dickinson and Manhattan (604), Monmouth (605), Hofstra and Wagner (606), Fairfield (608), Iona (612) and St. Francis Brooklyn (613).
