Men's Golf Tops NC Wesleyan in Dual Match
Matt Hills leads the way with a 72 in the match
The Central Connecticut men's golf team completed a dual match vs. North Carolina Wesleyan on Friday, March 21, and won by a score of 383-407. The Blue Devils and NC Wesleyan each competed with six players in the match, with the top five scores from each team counting towards the final score.
The match was played at River Landing Country Club in Wallace, NC. The River Course is a par-72, 6,969 yard course.
Freshman Matt Hills led all scorers in the match with an even par 72, shooting 37-35 to pace the Blue Devils. Junior Monte Mullen posted the second-best score of the day, shooting 74 with a 37-37.
"I am very proud of how hard the team worked all week," head coach Kevin Giancola said following the match victory. "There was some expected rust on their games after the long winter but I am very happy with the progress and especially our work ethic. Every player worked very hard each day to improve his skills. Matt (Hills) played an incrediblely solid round and deserved his first victory. On behalf of Central Connecticut State University and the men's golf team I would like to thank the River Landing Resort for their incredible hospitality and support."
Freshman Bryant Bolden shot 77 (38-39), followed by sophomore Jack Ayers with a 78 (42-36), senior Matthew DeJohn (82) and freshman Nick Direda (84).
The Blue Devils get right back to work this weekend travelling to the Whiting Turner Invitational hosting by Towson University beginning on Sunday. The tournament will be played at the Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville, MD.
