Men's Golf First After Day One at NEIGA; Mullen Leads
Blue Devils shoot even par 288 and lead by nine strokes
The Central Connecticut men's golf team will take a nine-stroke lead into the second and final round of the 79th Annual NEIGA Championship on Monday in Brewster, MA. The tournament is being played at The Captains Course and is a par-72 on both the Port Course and Starboard Course.
Central shot a day one total of 288 and leads by nine strokes over the University of Rhode Island (297) and 10 strokes over Bryant (298). There are 38 total teams in the tournament.
All five Central golfers are in the top-37, including four in at least a tie for the top-seven.
The Blue Devils were led by junior Monte Mullen who shot -2 on the day, 70, and sits in the overall lead after the first round of action. He is one of only three players under par heading into Monday's second round.
Mullen is followed by freshman Bryant Bolden (Even, 72), sophomore Connor Murphy (+1, 73), senior Matthew DeJohn (+1, 73) and freshman Nick DiReda (+5, 77).
Bolden is tied for fourth place overall and Murphy and DeJohn are each tied for seventh place. There are 189 individual golfers in the tournament.
