Men's Golf Finishes 5th at Towson

The Central Connecticut men's golf team wrapped up their final round of the Whiting Turner Towson Invitational on Tuesday and finished in fifth place on the team leader board.  The Blue Devils (308/313/310/931) shot a 310 on day three of the tournament and improved from their 9th place standing on Monday.

The three day, three round tournament was held at Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville, MD.  Towson University hosted the event which began with the first round on Sunday, March 31st and concluded on Tuesday, April 2nd.

Winning the tournament was William & Mary (291/292/305/888) who led the event on all three days.  Loyola-MD (302/302/309/913), Rutgers (300/304/310/914), Indiana (PA) (305/298/315/918), and Central rounded out the event's top-five.

The Blue Devils finished 67 strokes over-par which placed them ahead of sixth place Fairfield University (305/317/311/933) by two strokes.  Central finished ahead of all Northeast Conference schools in competition.

Senior Captain Dan Fanion (74/77/77/228) improved to a 13th place tie after round three.  He led his team on the individual leader board.  Fanion shot his best round on Sunday carding a 74, and finished just one stroke out of the individual top-ten.

Following Fanion was teammate and senior Matthew DeJohn (77/74/81/232).  DeJohn saw the 14th place seat on Monday but dropped to 24th place after Tuesday's round.  Sophomore Monte Mullen (80/84/74/238) shot a team-best 74 in the tournament's final round after an 80 and 84 in rounds one and two.  Mullen placed tied for 49th individually.

Sophomore Kevin Jud (79/78/83/240) finished tied for 66th while freshman Jack Ayers (78/86/78/242) finished tied for 76th in his debut tournament.

Central will return to action at the Lafayette College Spring Invitational on April 7th.  North Hampton Country Club in Easton, PA will be the host course of the tournament.
