Bio

Former Adelphi University standout forward Jamaal Wagner begins his eighth season on staff for the Blue Devils in 2013-14, and his fourth as an assistant coach.  He spent the previous four seasons as the senior staff supervisor for head coach Howie Dickenman.

Wagner graduated from Adelphi in 2006 after a standout career for one of the top Division II programs in the nation.  In his first season with the Blue Devils in 2006-07, the team finished the year with a 22-12 overall record and a 16-2 mark in Northeast Conference play.  They won their third NEC Title since 2000 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

“After playing for four seasons at Adelphi, my first opportunity to experience basketball on the other side of things came with the 2006-07 championship,” Wagner said.  “That team provided a memorable first year as a coach.  What we achieved was a direct result of hard work and effort by everyone involved with our men’s basketball program.  I have learned a tremendous amount from our coaching staff, administrators and especially the student-athletes.  The past four seasons have provided me an opportunity to learn how a team can gel as the season moves along.”

Wagner and his Adelphi teammates posted an 86-39 record in his four seasons, including a 22-9 record in his senior year.  They won 20 or more games three times in his four years.  He was a two-time captain for the Panthers.  In his senior season, Wagner started in 31 of 32 games and finished second on the team in assists (73) and third in rebounding (4.9) and scoring (9.2).  He posted a double-double in the East Coast Conference Tournament game vs. St. Thomas Aquinas with 13 points and 14 rebounds.  His team lost in the NCAA Tournament to eventual NCAA Runner-Up Stonehill College.  The loss snapped a 19-game winning streak.
