Three-Pointers Sink Men's Basketball at St. Francis Brooklyn
The Blue Devils host Bryant at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday
The Central Connecticut men's basketball team fell at St. Francis Brooklyn, 77-60, on Thursday night at the Pope P.E. Center. The Terriers sank 16 three-pointers and led throughout to pick up the Northeast Conference win. Junior Tyler Kohl led CCSU with 28 points and eight rebounds, while junior Deion Bute added 14 points.
The loss drops Central to 8-10 overall and 1-4 in NEC play. The Blue Devils have dropped four straight league games since winning their opener. The Terriers improved to 6-11 overall and 3-2 in NEC play.
The Terriers scored the game's first five points and built a double-figure lead in the opening five-plus minutes. St. Francis would hit 6-of-9 from three-point range to open the game, with Rasheem Dunn and Jalen Jordan each hitting a pair. Dunn's second of the period would cap a 9-0 run and make it 22-6 at the 11:53 mark.
St. Francis would push the lead to as much as 38-17 before a late Central run would trim the margin. Junior Tyler Kohl would convert a three-point play to open a string of seven unanswered points for the Blue Devils. After a jumper by senior Mustafa Jones, Kohl would hit a layup to make it 38-24 with 2:28 to go in the half.
CCSU would get within 12 points before St. Francis hit two foul shots just before the break to make it 43-29 at halftime.
Central would score six straight points to get within 53-37. Kohl would hit two foul shots and a jumper, with a Bute layup coming in between to get CCSU as close as it would be in the second half with 12:35 to play.
The Terriers would take their largest lead of the night with 5:05 to play. Jagos Lasic hit a three-pointer to make it 74-48. That would be SFC's last field goal of the night, but CCSU would get no closer than the final margin.
Central shot 20-of-47 (.426) overall and was 4-of-13 (.308) from the arc. The Blue Devils and Terriers each had 31 rebounds.
Rasheem Dunn led SFC with 21 points and hit five three-pointers. The Terriers shot .455 (25-of-55) overall, but were 16-of-35 (.457) from three-point range.
Central is back in action on Saturday against Bryant. The game will be the second of a men's and women's doubleheader. Tip is slated for 3:30 p.m.
