Men's Basketball Hosts Coppin State in Home-Opener Tuesday
The Blue Devils are coming off a 79-68 win at ECU on Friday, Nov. 17.
The Central Connecticut men's basketball team hosts Coppin State for the 2017-18 home-opener on Tuesday night. Tipoff at Detrick Gymnasium, is set for 7:00 p.m.
Tickets for CCSU home games can be purchased at CCSUTickets.com or at the box office upon entry to Kaiser Hall and Detrick Gymnasium. Admission for all CCSU students, faculty and staff is free of charge with a valid Blue Chip card.

LAST TIME OUT • Austin Nehls scored a game-high 24 points to lead four Blue Devils in double-figures in a 79-68 win at ECU. Nehls hit five three-pointers, while Tyler Kohl added 20 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Deion Bute had 11 points and 11 rebounds and Mustafa Jones had 10 points. Central shot 57.7 percent for the game. ECU led, 39-37 early in the second half, but a Nehls three-pointer opened a 13-2 run that gave Central the advantage for good. The Pirates would close within 62-59, but a Bute jumper ended the threat. The Blue Devils also held a 36-26 rebounding advantage.
OPENING NOTES • Central Connecticut hosts Coppin State on Tuesday night in the team's 2017-18 regular-season home-opener. The game is part of the Showcase on the Banks event, in which CCSU has split the first two games. The Blue Devils are coming off a 79-68 win at ECU on Friday, Nov. 17. The Eagles are 0-5 on the season, falling most recently at Rutgers, 64-39, on Sunday. The teams will be meeting for the first time.
BUTE NAMED NEC PLAYER OF THE WEEK • Junior Deion Bute was named the NEC Player of the Week on Nov. 20 after averaging 15.0 pts, 10.0 reb and 1.5 blocks and helping CCSU to its first win of the year. Bute posted his first career double-double in a win at ECU. He scored 11 points (5-7 fg) and 11 rebounds in 35 minutes. Bute opened the week scoring a career-high 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting at St. John's. He also grabbed nine rebounds against the Red Storm.
KOHL PACING CENTRAL • Junior Tyler Kohl leads Central in scoring (16.0), rebounding (8.0) and assists (4.75). He has posted at least 20 points in a game three times and ranks eighth in the NEC in scoring. He nearly had a triple-double with 20 points, nine rebounds and nine assists in CCSU's win at ECU. There have been only two triple-doubles in program-history.
UP NEXT • The Blue Devils travel to Cleveland State on Friday, Nov. 24, for the final contest of the Showcase on the Banks event. The game will be available to stream online at ESPN3. The teams will be meeting for the first time since 1985 and just the second time overall.
