Nehls Earns NABC Honors Court Recognition
Honor recognizes student-athletes with GPA of 3.2 or better.
Junior Austin Nehls of the Central Connecticut men's basketball team was recognized on the 2016-17 National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court it was announced Tuesday. Nehls was the Blue Devils' leading scorer this past season, in addition to earning numerous academic honors.
The honor is the latest to recognize Nehls' work in the classroom. A Finance major, he posted a 4.0 GPA during the Fall 2016 semester and was on the Dean's List in both semesters. Nehls was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 First Team and earned Northeast Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and NEC Winter Academic Honor Roll recognition.
On the court, Nehls averaged a team-high 13.4 ppg in a league-leading 36.1 minutes per game. He started all 29 games and ranked second in the NEC with 2.4 three-pointers per game and was 10th, hitting 37 percent from the arc. Nehls hit his 100th three-pointer of his career in just 40 games and currently ranks eighth at CCSU with 139 in his career. He posted four 20-point games last season, including a career-high 26 at Fordham.
The NABC honor recognizes men's collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season. The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts of the student-athletes off the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a cumulative 3.2 GPA following the academic year and be a member of a NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA Division I or II institution with an NABC member coach.
