Drakeford Selected to Play in Gotham Hoops Invitational
Event is a showcase for top seniors in Tri-State area.
Faronte Drakeford, a senior captain on the 2014-15 Central Connecticut State men's basketball team, has been selected to play in the Gotham Hoops Invitational on Saturday, May 30, at Adelphi University. The event is a showcase for the top men's college basketball seniors in the Tri-State area.
In two seasons at CCSU, Drakeford started 60 games and averaged 13.2 points and 6.2 rebounds, while shooting 45.2 percent from the field. The 6-foot-7 forward scored a career-high 26 points at Wagner on Jan. 31, 2015 and had a stretch of three straight double-figure rebounding games this past season, including a career-high 17 at Mount St. Mary's on Jan. 8, 2015.
As a senior, Drakeford ranked second on the team in scoring (12.9 ppg) and rebounding (7.0 rpg). He ranked among the top-10 leaders in the Northeast Conference in five categories, including rebounding, steals (1.27) and free throw percentage (.777). He earned All-Northeast Conference Third Team honors as a junior after averaging 13.4 points and 5.3 rebounds. He started all 30 games for the Blue Devils.
In its second year, the Gotham Hoops Invitational was founded by Ray Anczelowicz and operated by Gotham Hoops, LLC. Athletes from leagues including the Northeast Conference, Atlantic 10 Conference, Colonial Athletic Association, Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference and America East Conference will participate in the event. Event alumni are current pros in 14 countries around the world.
Events at the Center for Recreation and Sports on Adelphi's campus for the Invitational include a combine and measurements, skill development and team practices. Doors open for the public for the Showcase Games, Entertainment and the All-Star Game. Admission to the event is $10 for the general public and $5 for students.
