Vinales Named Rookie of the Week
Rookie guard wins the award for the fifth time this season
Central Connecticut freshman guard Kyle Vinales was named the Choice Hotels/Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for the fifth time on Monday. Vinales remains the leading freshman scorer in the country averaging 20.6 points per game heading into this week's action.
Vinales had another great game for the Blue Devils in a 70-64 loss on the road at Northwestern on Saturday. He scored a game-high 27 points in 37 minutes of action to keep the Blue Devils close until the final minute on Saturday.
Vinales was 11-of-22 from the field, and hit four threes and led all scorers in the contest. It marked the fourth time this season he has hit four or more threes in a game. It also marked the sixth time this year he has scored 24 or more in a game. He has 55 points in his last two games.
Vinales is 32-of-75 from three this season, good for 42.7 percent. He is also second on the squad with 34 assists through the first 10 games.
Central returns to action on Thursday night hosting LaSalle at 7 p.m. in Detrick Gym.
