Vinales Makes it Four Out of Five
Freshman honored by league office for the fourth time in five weeks
Freshman guard Kyle Vinales was named the Northeast Conference men's basketball Rookie of the Week for the fourth time in five weeks on Monday. Vinales, the leading freshman scorer in the nation, averaged 19.5 points and 3.5 assists last week for Central Connecticut.
Vinales hit 9-of-19 threes on the week, including six in the loss to Brown on Saturday. Travelling home to Michigan on Wednesday night to face Michigan State, Vinales had 11 points and three threes, along with three assists, in 21 minutes of action.
He followed that up on Saturday with 28 points at Brown, including 23 after halftime. Vinales hit 6-of-12 threes in the game, matching his season-high of six threes in a game. Vinales made nine threes on the week, and leads the team with 28 on the season.
He is shooting 44.4 percent from behind the arc through his first nine games. He also had four assists on Saturday, his seventh straight game with at least three assists, and his fifth with four or higher.
Vinales is averaging 19.9 points per game, and has scored 24 or more in five of eight games this season.
