Speech Captures 16th Blue Devil Run
Men's basketball opens practice on Friday
Sophomore guard De'Angelo Speech captured the 16th Annual Blue Devil Run on Wednesday afternoon in New Britain. The run signals the unofficial start of the 2011-12 men's basketball season for the Blue Devils. The first official practice for Central will be this coming Friday, October 14. Wednesday marks 30 days until the first game of the season on November 11 vs. Yale.

The Blue Devil run takes place on a 3.7 mile course adjacent to the Central campus.
Speech posted a time of 23:07 on the course, beating freshman guard Kyle Vinales by 11 seconds. Vinales ran the course in 23:18, followed by classmates Adonis Burbage (24:06), Shelton Mickell (24:38) and Malcolm McMillan (24:47), who rounded out the top five finishers.
Sophomore Mark LaPorte (24:52), junior Joe Efese (26:52), senior Ken Horton (26:56) and senior David Simmons (28:25) rounded out the nine student-athletes who participated for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devil Run has been an annual event at the beginning of the basketball season since head coach Howie Dickenman took over the men's basketball program 16 years ago.
The Blue Devils begin practice for the 2011-12 season on Friday in New Britain. The first game of the season will take place on Friday night, November 11th against Yale in the Connecticut 6 Classic at 8 p.m. Once again this season the Classic will be held at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. Yale and Central have not played since the 2002-03 season.
