Alberto Cordero is in his first season at Central Connecticut State University as the Director of Football Operations and as an assistant coach. In his role, Cordero will be involved in all aspects of the football program including coordination of team travel, organizing team and preseason camps, budgeting, acting as a liaison to various constituencies, high-involvement with recruiting and working on both sides of the ball. Cordero worked under 2012 Liberty Mutual Division II Coach of the Year and new Head Coach Pete Rossomando at the University of New Haven from 2011 to 2013. Cordero most recently served as a Graduate Assistant and Linebackers coach at UNH.

In 2013, Cordero helped the University of New Haven program to a fourth consecutive winning season as they posted an overall record of 8-3. He mentored senior linebacker Matthew Fallico as he garnered Capitol One Academic All-District honors.

In 2012, he coached All NE-10 Linebackers Mike Gomes and Rich Long who anchored the New Haven defense in leading the country in Rush Defense for most of the year. Gomes also earned All Region honors. The Charger defense finished 3rd in Total Defense in Division II for the year and 8th overall as a team in the Final AFCA Coaches Poll.

In his first year with the Chargers, he coached Linebacker Charlie Hatchett to All American Honors along with All NE-10 accolades. His teammate Mike Gomes was also selected as an All NE-10 selection for his play at Linebacker. The University of New Haven finished their season in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Playoffs and finished 8th overall in the Final AFCA Coaches Poll standings.

Previously to his arrival to New Haven, Cordero was an assistant with the Harford Colonials in their inaugural season in the United Football League. Former University of New Haven head coach Chris Palmer was the head coach for the Colonials.

Prior to working with the Colonials, Cordero earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology - Coaching and Administration at the University of Connecticut. While at UConn, Cordero served as a student assistant for Randy Edsall’s football program from 2006 to 2010. He helped the defensive staff and worked under Outside Linebackers Coach and Special Teams Coordinator Lyndon Johnson.

During Cordero’s time in Storrs, the Huskies appeared in the PapaJohns.com Bowl, the International Bowl and the Meineke Car Care Bowl, winning both the PapaJohns.com and International Bowls. He was also a part of the first Big East Championship team at UConn in 2007.

Alberto is also a familiar face in his hometown of New Haven where he has volunteered as a coach at both Wilbur Cross and Hillhouse High Schools.
