Football Drops NEC Contest At Saint Francis U

The Central Connecticut football team returned to Northeast Conference play, falling 39-13 at Saint Francis U on Saturday afternoon. The game was the third consecutive road game for the Blue Devils.

Luquay Washington scored the Blue Devils first points, intercepting a pass across the middle fo the field and taking it back 47-yards for the touchdown. 

The Blue Devils return to Arute Field for Homecoming on October 8 when they host Brown. Game time is set for 1:00 pm and tickets are available online.

• Alex Schmoke opened the scoring for SFU with a 24-yard field goal on the Red Flash's first possession of the game
• A snap out of the end zone gave the Red Flash a safety with 4:42 to play in the first quarter for a 5-0 lead
• Cole Doyle found Makai Jackson early in the second quarter for a 29-yard touchdown to give the Red Flash a 12-0 advantage
• Lovell Armstead went wide to the right side for a one-yard score with 5:15 to play in the first-half gave the Red Flash a 19-0 advantage
• Luquay Washington returned an interception 47-yards for a touchdown to get CCSU on the board with 1:08 to play in the first-half
• Hunter Brown scored from two-yards out capping a five-play 1:59 drive to put SFU in front 26-6 with 8:22 to play in the third quarter
• Shon Mitchell scored from six-yards out, to complete an 11-play 75-yard scoring drive for CCSU with 3:20 to play in the third quarter
• Cole Doyle connected with Elijah Surratt from six-yards out to give the Red Flash a 32-13 advantage with 11:49 to play after a missed PAT

• Erik Surratt had a 43-yard reception in the second quarter, his second consecutive week with a reception of 40 or more yards
• Washington's interception is the second of his career
• Chizi Umunakwe had 14 total tackles in the game, his third double-digit tackle effort of the season, and added a sack, 2.0 TFL and a QBH
• Kyren Petteway made a career-high seven catches, for 89 yards, with 60 yards after catch
• Mitchell's rushing TD is his first as a Blue Devil and second as a collegian

• Erik Surratt caught two more passes on the day, averaging 31.5 yards per reception
