Mignone, Cann Named to All-New England Team
Pair of Blue Devils honored for their 2017 season
Senior Jarrod Cann and redshirt freshman Connor Mignone were named to the 2017 All-New England Division I Football Team on Tuesday. The pair, who were both named First Team All-Northeast Conference last week, helped the Blue Devils win their fifth NEC Championship earlier this month, as well as advance to the NCAA FCS Playoffs for the first time in school history. Central rode an eight-game winning streak, the longest in-season streak in school history, into last week's playoff game at #21 New Hampshire.
The Blue Devils finished a perfect 6-0 in NEC play this season, the first league team to do so since 2008. It marked the first unbeaten league season for the Blue Devils. The 2017 championship was the first for the Blue Devils since the 2010 season.
Mignone was also named the league's Offensive Rookie of the Year last week, becoming the first lineman to win the award in its 22-year history. He was also named to the All-NEC First Team. Mignone led an offensive line that produced the school's first 1,000 yard rusher since the 2014 season, and gave up just five sacks in six league games this season. The Blue Devils tied for ninth in the country having allowed just nine sacks in 11 games during the regular season.
Cann finished third on the team in tackles with 75 and led the team in interceptions with four on the year. He picked off a pair of passes in a win at Sacred Heart earlier this year and returned one for a touchdown.
