Rossomando Named as Finalist for Eddie Robinson Award
The Blue Devils will play New Hampshire in the first round of the FCS playoffs.
Central Connecticut football head coach was named as a finalist for the 31st STATS FCS Eddie Robinson Award it was announced Monday. The award recognizes the FCS Coach of the Year and Rossomando was named among a group of 18 finalists for the honor.
In his fourth season at Central, Rossomando guided the program to its fifth Northeast Conference crown and first berth in the FCS playoffs. The Blue Devils have an eight-game win streak heading into the postseason, their longest win streat since 1954-55 and the first time the Blue Devils have won eight in a row in a single season in program history. Rossomando's squad went 6-0 in conference play, marking the first unbeaten league mark in program history and the first school since Albany in 2008 to go undefeated in league play.
Before coming to CCSU, Rossomando spent five seasons at the University of New Haven where he was named Liberty Mutual NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year following the 2012 season. He also earned three Northeast-10 Coach of the Year awards as the head coach of the Chargers (2010-12).
The group of 18 finalists for the award recognizes at least one coach from each of the 13 FCS conferences. A national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries will select the recipient.
Rossomando will lead the Blue Devils into their first FCS playoffs appearance at New Hampshire on Saturday, Nov. 25. The 2 p.m. kickoff will be carried live on ESPN3.
