Football Wins Eighth Straight, Tops Robert Morris 42-14 on Saturday
Nash hits 1,000 yards, Dolegala becomes CCSU all-time leading passer
The Central Connecticut football team won its eighth straight game and topped Robert Morris 42-14 on Saturday in New Britain to move to 8-3 overall on the season and a perfect 6-0 in Northeast Conference play. It's the first time in school history that the Blue Devils have won eight straight games in a single season. It's also the first time since 2008 that an NEC team finishes the regular season unbeaten. Senior running back Cameron Nash hit 1,000 yards for the season and junior quarterback Jacob Dolegala became the school's all-time leading passer in the victory. Robert Morris ends the season 2-9 overall and 0-6 in league play.
The Blue Devils now await their fate in the NCAA Playoffs on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. on ESPNU.
Nash finished the game with 140 rushing yards on 26 carries to go along with three touchdowns, including a 50-yard score in the second quarter. He had rushing touchdowns of 13, 50 and five in the victory. He finishes the regular season with 13 rushing touchdowns. The Blue Devils scored 21 second half points to take a 28-7 lead at halftime.
Dolegala finished the game 11-of-24 for 182 yards and three touchdowns. In the process he became the schools all-time leading passer. He enters the playoffs next week with 5,908 career passing yards to go along with 32 touchdowns.
Junior Courtney Rush caught a pair of touchdowns in the win. He had four catches for 64 yards. Redshirt freshman Xavier Bass also caught a touchdown pass in the victory.
The Blue Devil offense rushed for 298 yards in the game and produced 480 yards of total offense. The defense forced two more turnovers and have forced 25 turnovers on the season. The two interceptions give the Blue Devils 14 on the season.
Central scored 42 points in the victory, marking the eighth straight game with at least 26 points, extending their school-record. The Blue Devils will enter the playoffs looking for their ninth consecutive victory.
Senior Jarrod Cann, one of 14 seniors honored prior to Saturday's game, led the defense with five tackles. Senior Carlton Nash added five tackles, one interception and one pass break-up. Kendall Coles posted his first career interception late in the fourth quarter.
