Football Hosts Sacred Heart Saturday at Arute Field
The Central Connecticut football team will host intrastate rival Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon at Arute Field. The Blue Devils (2-7, 0-4 NEC) and Pioneers (7-1, 3-1 NEC) are scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff in New Britain.

Series History • This is the 17th meeting in the all-time series between the Blue Devils and the Pioneers. The teams have played each other every year since 1998 with the Blue Devils holding a 9-7 advantage in the series. Sacred Heart has won three straight meetings, taking a 2011 contest at Arute Field (37-24) and back to back games at Campus Field in 2012 (34-21) and 2013 (59-36). Winning streaks have been common in the series with the first two meetings going to CCSU and the next four to Sacred Heart. Starting in 2004 the Blue Devils won seven straight and the Pioneer's enter today with a current three game winning streak.
Remaining Schedule • The Blue Devils have two games remaining on the 2014 schedule after today. CCSU will host Howard next week in the NAACP Harmony Classic and then travel to Saint Francis U on Nov. 22 for the season finale. The Saint Francis game will be the 12th of the season for the Blue Devils, a mark that has been reached just two other times in program history, 2009 (9-3) and 2013 (4-8).
Holmes Joins Elite Group • Senior Tyrell Holmes became the 16th player in CCSU history with 80 or more career receptions with his fourth catch last week at Bryant. It was just his 19th game as a wide receiver after playing defensive back his first two seasons.
Holmes' Big Day • Senior wide receiver Tyrell Holmes had a big game against Wagner with 165 yards on seven catches. His day included a 69-yard touchdown reception, which accounted for CCSU's only touchdown in the 20-10 loss.
Another Block for the Special Teams • The Blue Devil special teams have recorded a block in three straight games after knocking down a field goal attempt at Bryant on Nov. 1. CCSU also blocked a field goal against Wagner on Oct. 25 and blocked a punt at Robert Morris on Oct. 18.
