Hollomon Leads Football to Victory

Sophomore Rob Hollomon led the Central Connecticut football team to a 32-30 victory with a 207 rushing yard, 307 all-purpose yard performance.  Hollomon also accounted for three touchdowns in the Blue Devils' 32-30 victory over the Red Flash of Saint Francis (PA).

A 73-yard touchdown reception by senior Anthony Julbes from redshirt freshman quarterback Nick SanGiacomo and a 33-yard field goal by senior Juan Duque in the fourth quarter helped the Blue Devils earn a 32-30 victory.

The Blue Devils were holding a one point lead before SanGiacomo found Julbes over the middle of the field on a second-and-10 play.  Julbes broke to the outside and ran up the sideline untouched for the long score.

On the next Blue Devil possession Duque connected for his sixth field goal of the season, which put CCSU up by nine points with 5:39 remaining in the game.

Saint Francis answered on its next play from scrimmage when quarterback John Kelly found Franklyn Williamson open over the middle of the field for a 61-yard touchdown that cut the CCSU deficit to 32-30.

The Blue Devils were able to run out the clock on their next possession.  Hollomon ran the ball three times on the final drive as he increased his rushing total for the day to 207 yards.

Hollomon scored the Blue Devils' first three touchdowns of the game on the ground.  He rushed for a 5-yard touchdown early in the second quarter and then broke a 49-yard score late in the half.  Hollomon also opened the scoring in the third quarter with a 45-yard touchdown run.

Hollomon also caught a pair of passes for 80 yards and returned a punt 20 yards to finish with 307 all-purpose yards for the second consecutive week.

Saint Francis scored a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter, but junior Chris Linares blocked Saint Francis' second PAT attempt.  After blocking the kick, Linares scooped up the loose ball and returned it for a 2-point score.  Linares' big special teams play helped swing the momentum back in the Blue Devils' favor.

SanGiacomo did not start at quarterback, but he played most of the game and helped the CCSU offense get going in the second quarter.  He threw for 212 yards on eight-of-14 passing and a touchdown.  The touchdown pass to Julbes was the longest of his career.

The Blue Devil defense was led by senior linebackers D.J. Radich and Lorenzo Baker.  Radich had a game-high 13 tackles and Baker finished with 10.  Both players had six individual stops in the game.

Junior Darnell Benjamin recorded a sack and junior Chris Williams and redshirt freshman Mark Robinson combined for a second.  The Blue Devil defensive line applied pressure throughout the game.

The back-to-back 200 yard rushing games by Hollomon are the first since Justise Hairston went for 332 against Saint Francis (PA) and 256 against Robert Morris during the 2006 season.
