Football Spring Practice Set to Begin on Friday; Spring Game on Apr. 29th

The two-time defending Northeast Conference champion Central Connecticut football team will open spring practice on Friday, April 1. The Blue Devils will practice 14 times in April before finishing the spring season with the annual Blue-White Scrimmage on Friday, April 29 on Arute Field at 1:30 p.m.

The Blue Devils finished 8-3 overall last season and 7-1 in NEC play for the second straight fall. Central shared the NEC title with Robert Morris, who finished with an identical 7-1 record. The Blue Devils are the owners of the nation's second-longest home winning streak, 14 games, heading into the 2011 season. Central has won or shared four NEC titles since 2004, the most of any team in the league.

"We are excited to get out there and continue working towards a third straight NEC title," head coach Jeff McInerney said on Tuesday. "Our players have been working hard in the offseason to stay in top condition, and we can't wait to hit the field on Friday to begin our spring season."

McInerney and the Blue Devils will practice from 7-9 a.m. each day of spring practice. Practices will take place on April 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 25 and 27, with the spring game taking place on April 29. The game will be preceded by the presentation of the championship rings from the 2010 season, and the announcement of the 2011 team captains.

All practices are open to the public. A complete spring roster will be announced on Friday. The 2011 schedule will also be announced later this week.

"Our spring game has turned into a wonderful day for us to celebrate the history of CCSU football." McInerney said. "We will honor the 2010 team, name our captains for the upcoming season, and celebrate the past, present and future of CCSU football. It is a great day and we invite everyone to be there."

Admission to the game is free.

That night, the CCSU Alumni Association will hold its annual Hall of Fame Inductions on the CCSU campus. More information on the HOF and the induction class will be released shortly.
