Baseball Holds off Quinnipiac in Non-Conference Win Tuesday

The Central Connecticut baseball team scored eight runs in the first three innings enroute to a 9-7 win over Quinnipiac on Tuesday in New Britain, CT.  Hunter Pasqualini collected five hits with two stolen bases and Drew Munn turned in a strong start to lead the Blue Devils in the win.

Central hosts Sacred Heart for a three-game conference series beginning Thursday.

KEY MOMENTS

• Ramon Jimenez drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the first inning to give CCSU a 1-0 lead. In the second, Elliot Good hit a two-out home run to left field and after Pasqualini singled in a run, Joe Rios hit a three-run homer to make it 6-0.
• After Quinnipiac got a three-run homer in the top of the third, Central came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Jimmy Sullivan doubled in a run and Brady Short doubled in another to make it 8-3.
• The teams would trade runs in the fourth, with Jimenez tripling in Pasqualini in the CCSU half of the inning to make it 9-4.
• Quinnipiac chipped away at the deficit with a run in the sixth and two more in the eighth to make it 9-7, but Luke Garofalo came on in the ninth to collect his sixth save of the season for CCSU.

NOTES

• The Blue Devils are 35-17 against the Bobcats dating back to 2004 and have gone 7-3 in the last 10 meetings.
• Pasqualini went 5-for-5 with five singles. He joins Jimenez (6-for-6 at Wagner on March 31) as the second Blue Devil with five or more hits in a game this season.
• Dan Hussey doubled in the top of the first to extend his hit streak to 14 games.
• Garofalo has moved into the top five on the CCSU career list with his ninth career save.
• Munn started and went 4.2 innings. He allowed four runs on six hits, but struck out four with no walks.
• Good finished the day 2-for-4 and Short went 2-for-3.
