Nicol Earns Weekly NEC Baseball Recognition

Freshman Jeff Nicol was tabbed Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week it was announced on Tuesday. Nicol had a pair of hits in the season-finale helping CCSU to a win over Fairleigh Dickinson

Nicol, a native of Wolcott, CT, earned his first start at catcher of the season in the regular-season finale on Friday against FDU. The Blue Devils erased an 8-0 deficit in the game, with Nicol helping lead the charge. He hit his first career homerun in the third inning, going back-to-back with senior Dave Matthews. Nicol would add a two-run single in the fourth inning as part of a five-run inning. CCSU would eventually win, 14-12. 

On the year, Nicol is hitting .304 with a homerun and 14 RBIs. He has scored seven runs and also has a triple.

The Blue Devils will play Sacred Heart in the Northeast Conference baseball tournament on Thursday at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, CT. The teams will play at 4:00 p.m.
