Baseball Takes Series Opener at Wagner, 6-2, on Friday
The Central Connecticut baseball team opened a three-game Northeast Conference series at Wagner with a 6-2 win on Friday at FirstEnergy Park. CCSU held the Seahawks to one hit over the first five innings and turned it over to the bullpen, which did not allow a run or hit over the final 2.2 innings. The Blue Devils' offense scored three runs in the fifth, before tacking on three insurance runs late to seal the win.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Blue Devils opened the scoring in the fifth inning. Senior Dave Matthews and freshman Mike Torniero reached to lead off the inning. An error would allow freshman Elliot Good to reach and bring Matthews around to make it 1-0. Sophomore Dan Covino connected on a two-out double to push the lead to 2-0.
- Junior Sam Loda was hit by a pitch in the sixth and moved to second on a wild pitch. Torniero would hit a two-out single to left-center and push the lead to 3-0.
- Wagner, which was held to one hit over the first five innings, would use three singles in the sixth to get a run and make it 3-1. The Seahawks added a run in the seventh after putting runners on second and third with two outs. A wild pitch would bring home a run to make it 3-2.
- CCSU would add three insurance runs over the last two innings. Loda led off the eighth with a single and Matthews would follow with a homerun to right field to make it 5-2. In the top of the ninth, senior Buddy Dewaine would hit a two-out homerun down the line in right to make it 6-2.

0 - The CCSU bullpen allowed no runs and did not surrender a hit in 2.2 innings of work. The Seahawks did draw four walks over that span.
NOTES
- Senior Andrew Braun scattered six hits over 6.1 innings. He allowed two runs, while recording one walk and one strikeout.
- Matthews went 1-for-3 and had two runs and two RBIs.
- Covino and Torniero each had two hits and an RBI.
- Dewaine, who had played just once in the previous 12 games went 2-for-5 and hit his third homerun of the year. He's hitting .351 on the season.
- Freshman Jake Neuman picked up his sixth save of the year, working out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth. He managed to strike out the side and has turned in six straight scoreless outings.
- The Blue Devils have won seven straight against the Seahawks, last dropping a 4-2 contest on March 30, 2019, in New Britain.
