Blue Devils Summer Baseball Update #1
Check back for updates on Blue Devils throughout the summer.
After helping the Central Connecticut baseball program win its sixth Northeast Conference championship and earn its first NCAA win, a number of Blue Devils have continued their playing season by joining team across collegiate summer leagues.
The current list of players playing in collegiate summer league and a brief update (stats through June 23):
NEW ENGLAND COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
TT Bowens - Mystic Schooners
Bowens has played in six games thus far and is hitting .320 (8-for-25). He leads the team in both homeruns (3) and RBIs (10), while adding seven runs scored. The Schooners are currently 9-2 and lead the Southern Division, while also being ranked #5 in the Collegiate Summer Baseball rankings.
Dave Matthews - Keene Swamp Bats
Matthews has launched a league-leading six home runs through nine games. He ranks second in the NECBL with 12 RBIs and has scored 11 runs. He has a pair of two-homerun games on the season, vs. Newport (June 7) and vs. Upper Valley (June 19). Matthews was named to the league's Week 1 Honor Roll on June 17.
Peyton Stephens - Keene Swamp Bats
Stephens is a pitcher for the Swamp Bats this summer. He has yet to make his first appearance on the mound. Along with Matthews, Stephens has helped Keene open the year 6-4 and sit in third in the Northern Division.
PERFECT GAME COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
Andrew Braun - Utica Blue Sox
Braun has pitched in four games for the Blue Sox, who are 9-8 on the season. In four relief appearances, spanning 6.1 innings, Braun has seven strikeouts and has allowed just four hits. He is yet to allow an earned run, being charged with just four unearned runs. The Blue Sox are tied for second in the West Division.
Dylan Sanchez - Watertown Rapids
Sanchez has played in five games for Watertown so far. He owns a .375 batting average (6-for-16) and scored three runs. He's driven in three runs and also stolen three bases. Sanchez recorded a 3-for-3 game in a 6-1 win at Utica on June 23. The Rapids are tied for second in the West Division with a 9-8 record.
Tim Buchek - Oneonta Outlaws
Buchek has pitched in five games and also has six at bats for Oneonta. At the plate he is hitting .333 (2-for-6) and has four RBIs. He has a double and two runs scored. On the mound, Buchek has thrown 8.1 innings, including one start. He owns a 3.24 ERA and is 2-0 with eight strikeouts. The Outlaws have won two straight and own a 7-10 record in the East Division.
FUTURES COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
Four Blue Devils are playing for the Bristol Blues this summer. The Blues have won three straight and own an 8-10 record thus far.
Matt Shane - Bristol Blues
Shane has pitched in four games for the Blues. In 7.1 innings of work he has allowed just two earned runs for a 2.45 ERA with six strikeouts.
Sam Loda - Bristol Blues
Loda has played in four games and has three hits, including a double and triple. He has scored a pair of runs and driven in another.
Buddy Dewaine - Bristol Blues
Dewaine has played three games for the Blues and has already turned in several highlight plays at third base. At the plate he has two hits and has scored a pair of runs with an RBI.
Dominic Niman - Bristol Blues
Niman has pitched in nine games and has a 2.45 ERA. In 14.2 innings of work, he has allowed nine hits and recorded 14 strikeouts.
COASTAL PLAIN LEAGUE
Mike Appel - Morehead City Marlins
Appel has pitched in four games, across 4.0 innings. He has allowed two earned runs, while striking out nine and walking just two. The Marlins have won five straight and are atop the East Division with a 13-7 record.

Ryan Costello (Fort Myers Miracle - Minnesota Twins Class A Advanced) - Costello has played 48 games with Fort Myers and has hit six homeruns with 19 RBIs and 25 runs scored. He played four games with Pensacola (AA) earlier in the season.
Dean Lockery (West Virginia Black Bears - Pittsburgh Pirates Class A Short Season) - Lockery has been with the Black Bears for five games after starting the season in Bradenton. He has driven in three runs and scored twice.
Connor Fitzsimons (Burlington Bees - Los Angeles Angels Class A) - Fitzsimons has played in 45 games and hit four homeruns with 24 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He has also hit four doubles and drawn 17 walks.
Nick Garland (GCL Pirates - Pittsburgh Pirates Rookie) - Garland will be playing with the GCL Pirates who open their season on June 24.
J.P. Sportman (York Revolution - Atlantic League) - Sportman has played in 44 games for York this season. He owns a .313 batting average (55-for-176), while hitting three homeruns with 21 RBIs and 27 runs scored. Sportman is on the ballot for the Atlantic League All-Star Game and fans can vote for who will play in the game HERE.
Tom Curtin (St. Paul Saints - American Association) - Curtin signed with the Saints on June 15 and has pitched in two games, including one start. He has four strikeouts in 6.2 innings and has allowed four runs.
