Baseball Falls to Hartford in Rain-Shortened Contest
The Blue Devils close out the season against Binghamton on Friday.
The Central Connecticut baseball team fell at Hartford, 3-0, in a rain-shortened contest at Dunkin' Donuts Park on Wednesday night. The Blue Devils and Hawks made it through five innings before the tarp was pulled onto the field and the game was called.
Central slips to 17-27 overall, while Hartford improves to 21-28 on the year.
The Blue Devils are slated to close out the season with a non-conference doubleheader against Binghamton on Friday at CCSU Baseball Field.
The Hawks took care of all the scoring in the first inning. After two strikeouts to open the inning, Ashton Bardzell singled and Chris Sullivan walked. TJ Ward followed with a two-out double down the line in right to drive in two runs. A single by Jackson Olson drove in Ward and made it 3-0.
The Blue Devils would come back in the second inning and load the bases with no outs, but Jake Regula would work out of the jam by striking out the side.
The pitcher's settled in from there. Junior Patrick Mitchell allowed just two hits over his final 4.1 innings of work. He took the loss, but allowed just three runs on five hits, while striking out three and walking one in 5.0 innings of work.
Regula retired 11 straight Blue Devils at one point and got the win. He allowed just two hits, with three strikeouts and a walk in 5.0 innings.
Senior Nick Garland and sophomore Chris Kanios each had a single for the Blue Devils at the plate.
