Baseball Closes Out NEC Slate at Fairleigh Dickinson This Weekend
The Blue Devils travel to New Jersey for a three-game series.
The Central Connecticut baseball team will close out the Northeast Conference portion of its schedule with a three-game series at Fairleigh Dickinson beginning Friday in Teaneck, NJ. Due to Saturday's forecast, the series has been changed to a nine-inning doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1:30 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
Central Connecticut State heads into the series with a record of 15-26 (9-16 NEC). The Blue Devils currently rank fourth in the NEC with a .271 batting average and a 5.50 ERA. CCSU sits in sixth place in the league standings.
Senior Dean Lockery currently ranks fourth in the league with a .340 batting average. He is also among the league leaders with 41 runs scored and has four homeruns and eight doubles. Senior Nick Garland has a team-leading 29 RBIs and four homers. Junior Mike Appel has a team-high three wins on the mound and has tossed 48.1 innings with 41 strikeouts. Sophomore Brandon Fox has tossed a team-high 37.1 innings in NEC play.
Fairleigh Dickinson is 10-32 overall and 1-21 in the NEC. The Knights rank sixth in the conference batting .253 as a team and rank seventh with a 7.66 ERA. FDU is seventh in the conference standings.
Evan McDonald is the Knights' leader with eight home runs, 28 RBIs and 28 runs scored. He is batting .309. Corey Zeller has started a team-high 10 games and has a 2-6 record with a 4.66 ERA. He has thrown three complete games and has 40 strikeouts.
Following this weekend's series, the Blue Devils are scheduled to next face Hartford on Wednesday, May 16, at Dunkin' Donuts Park.
