Fox Named Northeast Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week
Central travels to Albany on Tuesday for a non-conference contest.
Central Connecticut baseball sophomore Brandon Fox was named Northeast Conference co-Pitcher of the Week it was announced by the league on Monday. Fox tossed nine shutout innings in his only outing last week to open the weekend series against LIU Brooklyn. Fox and the Blue Devils return to action with a non-conference game at Albany on Tuesday.
Fox fired 9.0 shutout innings in Friday's series-opener against LIU Brooklyn. The right-hander scattered four hits and did not allow a runner past second base all day, but did not figure in the decision as LIU won 2-1 in 12 innings. Working deep into a scoreless game, Fox did not permit a hit over his final 4.0 frames. He fanned five batters and issued just two bases on balls. After surrendering a two-out double in the first inning, the lone extra-base hit he would allow, Fox set down nine batters in a row. The 6-foot-5 sophomore pitched to an 0.67 WHIP during what was his seventh start of the season.
In seven starts on the year, eight appearances overall, Fox has posted a 3.76 earned run average across 40.2 innings. He has posted 26 strikeouts against just 12 walks on the season. He ranks second in the Northeast Conference in ERA and fourth, holding opponents to a .242 batting average. In five conference starts he owns a 1-0 record with a 2.30 ERA.
