The Central Connecticut baseball team scored five runs in the first two innings enroute a 7-4 win over Siena on Tuesday at CCSU Baseball Field. Senior Dean Lockery hit a leadoff homerun, while sophomore Buddy Dewained collected three hits and scored a pair of runs in the win. The win improves Central to 11-17 on the season, while Siena slips to 7-26.

The Blue Devils host LIU Brooklyn for a three-game Northeast Conference series beginning Friday.

Central collected 11 hits as a team, while junior Patrick Mitchell and freshman Matt Shane held the Saints to just a run over the first eight innings of the game.

Lockery opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when he took a pitch over the fence in right field to make it 1-0. Dewaine would single with one out and move to second on freshman Jake Siracusa's base hit. Senior Andrew Hinckley followed with a single to center to drive in Dewaine and make it 2-0.

Freshman Sam Loda led off with a single in the second and moved to third on a double by classmate Jay Devito. Lockery would follow with a groundout that plated Loda for a three-run lead. With two outs, Dewaine reached on an error and moved to second, allowing Devito to score on the play. Senior Nick Garland followed with a single that drove in Dewaine to make it 5-0.

Siena strung together three singles in the fourth inning to get on the scoreboard. Jonathan Crimmin would single to drive in the Saints' first run and make it 5-1.

The Blue Devils got the run back in the bottom of the inning. Sophomore Chris Kanios was hit by a pitch with two outs and then stole second. Dewaine connected for a two-out double down the line in right to score Kanios and make it 6-1.

Siracusa doubled to lead off the fifth and moved to third on a throwing error. After two batters were retired, Loda walked and then got caught in a run down on the next batter that allowed Siracusa to score for a 7-1 lead.

Siena would load the bases with one out in the ninth. A wild pitch would bring home a run and Tim Carroll would drive in another on a sac fly to make it 7-3. With a runner on third, Matt Hamel would single to drive in a run and make it 7-4, but CCSU sophomore Andrew Braun would come on and get the final out.

In addition to Dewaine collecting three hits, Siracusa would go 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Lockery finished with two runs batted in.

Mitchell started and went 4.0 innings, allowing one run on five hits, while striking out two. Shane tossed 4.0 innings and did not allow a run on four hits, while striking out two and walking one.
