Baseball Falls to NDSU, 4-0, in Opening Weekend Finale
The Blue Devils travel to Furman for a three-game series beginning Friday.
The Central Connecticut baseball team fell to North Dakota State, 4-0, on Sunday in the teams' series finale in Port Charlotte, FL. The Bison limited the Blue Devils to three hits in the final game of their three-game series at the Snowbird Baseball Classic.
CCSU is now 1-2 overall on the season, while NDSU improved to 4-3.
Central opened the game with back-to-back singles from senior Dean Lockery and sophomore Chandler Debrosse. The Bison would avoid any damage, getting a line out and a double-play to end the inning.
NDSU opened the scoring in the bottom of the third when Jake McLean hit a two-run homerun to left field, giving the Bison a 1-0 lead.
The Bison doubled the lead in the fourth. Logan Busch led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Bennett Hostetler to make it 2-0.
North Dakota State rounded out the scoring with two runs in their half of the eighth. Matt Elsenpeter led off with a single and moved to scoring position on a passed ball and an infield single by Drew Fearing. He would score on a fielder's choice by Mason Pierzchal to make it 3-0. Busch would follow with a single to score that would score Fearing from second to make it 4-0.
Senior Dean Lockery, sophomore Chandler Debrosse and freshman Jake Siracusa each had a single to account for the CCSU offense.
Senior Brett Susi started on the mound and was charged with the loss. He went 4.0 innings and was charged with two runs on three hits. He also walked one. Sophomore Brandon Fox went 3.0 innings in relief and struck out three, without allowing a hit.
Jordam Harms started for the Bison and tossed 4.1 shutout innings. He allowed three hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Chris Choles got the win in relief. He tossed 3.2 no-hit innings and walked just one batter.
Fearing and Busch each had two hits. Fearing scored a run, while Busch scored once and drove in another run.
Central is back in action when it travels to Furman next weekend. The three-game series begins on March 2 at 4:00 p.m.
