Casey Brown Earns Spot in NECBL All-Star Game
Brown has league's fourth-best ERA this summer.
Central Connecticut left-handed pitcher Casey Brown was named to the North Division All-Star Team for the 2015 New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game it was announced on Sunday. Brown, who recently completed his junior season for the Blue Devils, has helped the Vermont Mountaineers to a second-place standing in the first half of the season with a 15-12 record.
Brown has posted a 3-1 record with a 1.10 ERA in six starts for the Mountaineers. He was named to the NECBL Weekly Honor Roll on June 29 after tossing 6 2/3 scoreless innings in a 9-2 win over North Adams on June 27. Brown has not allowed more than two earned runs in any start this summer and in 32.2 innings pitched he has struck out 16, while allowing just 25 hits. His ERA of 1.10 ranks fourth among qualifying pitchers in the league leaders. Brown is coming off a season for CCSU in which he ranked second in innings pitched (61.1) and strikeouts (39) in 10 starts.
Each All-Star Team is comprised of nine slots for pitchers (starting pitcher, seven relievers, closer); a starter and two substitute catchers; a starter and substitute for the four remaining infield positions; a starter and substitute designated hitter; three starting outfielders and three reserve outfielders; and one Coach's Selection by each manager for a total of 29 players per squad.
The 22nd annual NECBL All-Star game will be held on Sunday, July 19th, at Historic Goodall Park in Sanford, Maine. The NECBL's Midsummer Classic will be hosted by the Sanford Mainers on Sunday, July 19. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. In addition to the All-Star Game, Sunday's festivities also include a 60-yard dash and the Home Run Derby starting at approximately 12:20 p.m., and a full itinerary can be found here.
