Casey Brown Named to NECBL Weekly Honor Roll
Brown and other Blue Devils enjoying strong summers.
Casey Brown, who just completed his junior season with the Central Connecticut baseball team, was named to the New England Collegiate Baseball League Weekly Honor Roll it was announced on Monday.
Brown, who is playing with the Vermont Mountaineers, won his only start of the week after tossing 6 2/3 scoreless innings with four strikeouts, one hit and one walk yielded in a 9-2 victory over the North Adams SteepleCats on June 27.
Brown currently ranks fourth in the NECBL with a 0.57 ERA through the games of June 28. In four starts, he has allowed just one earned run over 15.2 innings and has 10 strikeouts, while allowing just 14 hits.

Matt Martinez, a classmate of Brown, is having a strong summer at the plate for Top Speed Baseball in the Golden State Collegiate Baseball League in California. Martinez ranks second in the league in hitting with a .447 average, while leading the circuit with seven homeruns and 24 RBIs. He has also scored 18 runs, helping Top Speed to a league-best 18-4 record.
Ryan Costello, who is playing with the Bristol (CT) Blues of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England, is tied for the team lead with two homeruns. He also has eight runs batted in, which ranks second, and has scored six runs, which is tied for fourth, to help the Blues to a 12-8 record.
The Torrington Titans of the Futures League feature a quartet of Blue Devils in Franklin Jennings, Brett Susi, Nick Garland and Dean Lockery. Jennings ranks second on the team with four stolen bases, while Lockery has scored a team-high 11 runs and Garland is second on the team with eight RBIs. Susi has a 2.87 ERA in three starts, with 16 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.
Connor Fitzsimons is playing for the Keene Swamp Bats in the NECBL and has hit safely in seven of his last eight games. He has a team-high four doubles and eight RBIs.
Corey Lerche is playing with the Newark Pilots of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League and has a .267 average in 13 contests.
Ian Glassman has helped the Allentown Railers to a 10-1 record in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League. He ranks second on the team with 10 RBIs and is batting .273 with six runs scored, while playing in all 11 contests.
