Severino, Baseball Top Marist on Thursday
Senior drives in five runs in the home win
Senior Dominic Severino drove in five runs as the Central Connecticut baseball team evened its record at 5-5 on the season with a 13-4 home win over Marist on Thursday. Five Central pitchers combined to hold Marist to eight hits and four runs in the game. The Blue Devils outscored the visitors 9-0 after the game was tied 4-4 after four innings.
Marist is now 1-10 overall on the season.
The Blue Devils scored first with three runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double from freshman Dean Lockery. Severino also had a sacrifice fly in the frame to make it 3-0.
Marist got two runs back in the top of the second inning, but Central answered with one in the second to take a 4-2 lead. Freshman Nick Garland grounded out to plate the runner.
Marist tied the game with two runs in the top of the fourth inning, but that would be it for the scoring for the visitors for the day.
Central scored twice in the fifth, once in the sixth, once in the seventh and five times in the eighth inning to push their record to 5-5 on the year.
Severino drove in two more runs in the fifth inning as the Blue Devils made it 6-4. Sophomore Frankling Jennings had an RBI in the sixth, and freshman Alex Koshgarian added one in the seventh to make it 8-4.
A five-run eighth inning was capped by two-RBI triple from Severino. Junior Ian Glassman also drove in a pair of runs in the inning and sophomore Tom Lanzoni added his first RBI of the season to finish off the scoring.
Severino had five RBI to go along with two hits. Glassman and Lockery each drove in two and had two hits.
Sophomore Michael Pastore picked up his first win of the season on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing just one hit while striking out one. Senior Jesse Frawley let up a pair of hits in two innings and sophomore Kevin Connolly pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
