Baseball Falls 3-2 at Home to Albany
Blue Devils will host Marist on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
The Central Connecticut baseball team saw its three-game win streak come to an end with a 3-2 home loss to Albany on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss the Blue Devils are now 4-5 overall on the season, and will play Marist on Thursday at 1 p.m. in New Britain.
Albany got on the board first with a run in the top of the fourth inning off junior starter Casey Brown. With two outs, Shawn Blake doubled to left center and came around to score on a RBI single to right field by Karson Canaday.
The Great Danes tacked on another run in the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead. A costly error by the Blue Devils with runners on first and second and two outs allowed Kenny Hayden to score and double the Albany lead.
Albany continued to do damage to the Blue Devils with two outs in the top half of the next inning. They pushed across one run for the third-straight inning to make it 3-0 Great Danes after Adam Mund doubled down the left field line to plate Alex Lushkevich all the way from first.
Central scored twice in the eighth inning to cut the Albany lead to 3-2. Both runs scored on bases loaded walks. With one out in the inning junior Conor Fitzsmons singled to center field and then went to second on an error by the Great Danes. Senior Dominic Severino walked, followed by a walk to junior Corey Lerche to score the first run. Freshman Alex Koshgarian came in to pinch hit and also walked to score the second run of the inning. The Great Danes got out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts to end the threat.
Freshman Dean Lockery finished with a pair of hits for the Blue Devils in the loss. Brown pitched six innings in the loss, allowing six hits, two earned runs and posting three strikeouts.
The Blue Devils will return to action at home on Thursday hosting Marist at 1 p.m. on the CCSU Baseball Field. Central will travel to St. John's this weekend for a weekend series with the Red Storm beginning on Friday afternoon.
