Baseball Falls at Home to Holy Cross
Blue Devils will host Hartford at 3 p.m. on Wednesday
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped to 1-3 overall on the season with a 9-4 home loss to Holy Cross on Tuesday afternoon. The game marked the fourth straight home game for the Blue Devils top open the 2015 season. They will return to action, at home, on Wednesday at 3 p.m. hosting Hartford.
Central struck first with a single run in the first inning. The first two batters singled to lead off the inning and with two outs freshman Ryan Costello singled to right field to score the game's first run. Sophomore Franklin Jennings scored on the play, making it 1-0.
Holy Cross scored three times in the top of the third inning off of junior starter Casey Brown to take a 3-1 lead. All three runs came with two outs in the inning as the Crusaders had four hits in the inning while scoring three runs.
The Crusaders added another two out run in the fourth inning on an RBI single to left from Evan Ocello. Three more runs scored in the top of the fifth inning to make it 7-1 Holy Cross.
Brown finished with 4.0 innings pitched for CCSU allowing 10 hits and six runs. He struck out four Holy Cross batters.
Central got a pair of runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 7-3. An RBI double from junior Connor Fitzsimons in the bottom of the sixth inning cut it to 7-2. The double scored junior Ian Glassman who had singled to lead off the inning. Freshman Dean Lockery's double scored Fitzsimons to make it 7-3.
Holy Cross added two runs in the top of the eighth inning to push the lead to 9-3. Fitzsimons added an RBI groundout in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 9-4.
Central returns to action at home tomorrow hosting Hartford in a single game at 3 p.m.
