Baseball Picks Up First Win Over Brown
CCSU plays second straight extra-inning game to start season
The Central Connecticut baseball team went to extra-innings for the second straight game and came away with a 5-4 13-inning victory over Brown on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Franklin Jennings plated the winning run in the bottom of the 13th inning with a bases-loaded single to break the tie.
With the win the Blue Devils are now 1-1 on the season. Brown drops to 0-5.
Brown took the lead with a pair of runs in the first inning off of Blue Devil junior starter Cody Brown. Brown was pitching his first game back after missing all of the 2014 season for the Blue Devils. He went four innings allowing five hits and a pair of runs while striking out five and walking two.
Four Blue Devil pitchers combined to pitch the final nine innings allowing nine hits and just two runs for the Blue Devils. Sophomore Kevin Connolly pitched the final inning allowing just one hit while striking out two. He earned his first win of the season.
Central had 12 hits in the game including two from Jennings and two each from senior Dominic Severino, freshman Dean Lockery and senior Bryan Rivera.
Severino posted two RBI in the game, coming in the ninth inning with one out and the Blue Devils down 4-2. He doubled to right center field to plate a pair of runners and send the game to extra-innings.
Rivera also added an RBI, his first of the season, for the Blue Devils.
Sophomore Brett Susi pitched three innings in relief allowing three hits and one run. Sophomore Austin Salnitis pitched five innings five innings allowing five hits, one run and striking out three.
The Blue Devils return to action on Monday hosting Northeastern at 2:30 p.m. in New Britain.
