Baseball Tops UCF 5-4 in 10 Innings on Sunday
Blue Devils even record at 2-2 on the season
The Central Connecticut baseball team topped the University of Central Florida 5-4 in extra innings on Sunday, grabbing the third and final game of the weekend series. With the victory the Blue Devils improve to 2-2 overall on the season. They went 1-2 on their trip to UCF.
Senior Anthony Turgeon's sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th inning scored freshman Franklin Jennings with the go-ahead run, making it 5-4.
Senior right hander Josh Ingham picked up his first victory of the season on the mound, pitching the final four innings while allowing just one run on three hits.
Freshman Matt Blandino started his first career game for the Blue Devils. He did not factor in the decision but pitched a solid six innings while allowing three earned runs on just four hits. He struck out four and walked four in the game.
Senior J.P. Sportman drove in a pair of runs with a single in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game and send it to extra innings. Down 4-2, Sportman's single to right field score both freshman Yuri Morin and sophomore Connor Fitzsimons.
In the 10th it was Turgeon's sacrifice fly that scored Jennings with the game-winner.
Ingham also had an RBI in the victory, he was 2-for-4 at the plate. Sophomore Tyler Barrett added an RBI in the win.
The Blue Devils will play UConn on Tuesday and Army on Wednesday, both games will be played in Winter Haven, FL. This coming weekend the Blue Devils will travel to Bethune-Cookman for a weekend series.
