Baseball Drops Opener at UCF on Friday
Two teams will play once on Saturday and once on Sunday this weekend
Senior J.P. Sportman collected a pair of hits but the Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a 10-0 decision on the road at Central Florida on Friday night. The game was the first in a three-game series this weekend for the Blue Devils and UCF. Central Connecticut is now 1-1 on the season.
UCF is now 8-11 overall on the season. The teams will play on Saturday at 4:30 and Sunday at 1 p.m. Fans can log on the www.ucfknights.com for live video and live stats of all of the game this season.
Sportman's two hits led the Blue Devils in the loss on Friday. He also stole a base.
Senior right hander Tom Coughlin picked up the loss on the mound for the Blue Devils in his first outing of the season. Coughlin went five innings allowing four hits and just two earned runs while walking three batters. The Blue Devils made four errors in the field which led to six of the 10 UCF runs.
Senior Anthony Mannuccia saw his first action in a CCSU uniform pitching two innings without allowing an earned run. He struck out three and allowed two hits. Senior Nick Boyd pitched the final inning allowing two earned runs while striking out one batter.
The Blue Devils and Knights will be in action again on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Nick Neumann is the scheduled starter for the Blue Devils.
